When it comes to Web development debates, many experienced developers say there’s no practical difference between PHP and Python (and Ruby, Perl, etc.).
I used to hold the same opinion.
Until I had to work on some projects to extract TLS information from a website’s SSL certificate.
The PHP libraries sucked so hard and were so incompetent that by comparison, the Python world was looking like a paradise.
And that’s not all.
When it comes to asynchronous (Node-like) Web frameworks, PHP has exactly zero options. Python has far too many options.
Python has an ecosystem that is miles ahead, no matter what you want to do. And no stupid memory leaks.
And virtual environments.
And books that absolutely rock (Automate the Boring Stuff with Python, Impractical Python Projects, and so on).
And fun tools (YouTube downloader, Anime scraper, what have you).
[sigh . . .]
I guess that’s enough.
So, yeah, PHP sucks. 🙂
